If you live here, you already know July flips a switch on Laguna Canyon Road. What you may not have mapped is how tightly the three festivals now interlock in 2026, and how much of the season is actually free or discounted if you carry a Laguna ID. This is a resident's read of the calendar, not a visitor's checklist.
One canyon, three gates, overlapping runs
The three shows on Laguna Canyon Road no longer stagger their openings the way they used to. In 2026 they run in near-lockstep, which changes how you plan a Saturday.

The overlap window is roughly nine weeks. During those weeks a single admission strategy makes more sense than three separate ones, and the city's transit shifts to match.
The Pageant's 2026 theme is a swing, not a safe replay
If you skipped last summer, the argument for going this year is the program itself. The Festival of Arts announced the 2026 theme as "The Greatest of All Time" (G.O.A.T.), and the lineup leans on names even a reluctant art audience will recognize. The 2026 Pageant will feature works from Michelangelo, Diego Velázquez, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Norman Rockwell.
Director Diane Challis Davy has been candid that the premise is deliberately unresolvable. In her framing to the Laguna Beach Independent, she noted "Do I really think the history of art has one artwork that can be considered the greatest of all time? No!" laughed longtime Pageant Director, Diane Challis Davy. "But that's exactly what makes this show so exciting."
The scale behind the show is worth holding in mind when you take a seat in the Irvine Bowl. Now in its 93rd year, the production is built by hundreds of volunteers, and the Festival's Volunteer Research Committee has grown to 200 "art detectives," submitting possible artworks for the 2026 production. That committee is largely your neighbors.
The Sawdust turns sixty, and the food finally caught up
Sawdust's 60th season is the story most residents will actually talk about at the market. The character of the grounds has not changed. What has changed is the concessions row, which used to be an afterthought.
This year's food lineup is worth walking in for on its own night. The Cove by Starfish is serving its now-famous churro bao bun, and AhbA is making its debut as the festival's newest concession, serving elevated American-style cuisine. On the savory side, Taco Loco, led by local favorite Gonzo Rebollar, delivers the bold flavors and laid-back Laguna spirit that have made it a longtime crowd pleaser.
The artist count has crept up as well. The grounds host more than 180 local artists, live music, hands-on art experiences, and great food throughout the canyon, and the residency rule that separates Sawdust from every other art fair in the county still holds: all artists that exhibit during the summer festival are Laguna Beach residents, making the Sawdust a one-of-a-kind experience.
Hours in 2026 run Sunday–Thursday 11 a.m.–8 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., which pairs well with a late Pageant curtain.
Two resident perks most people forget to use
This is the part that separates the local read of the season from the visitor read.
Free Sawdust admission twice a week. Laguna Beach locals receive free admission every Monday and Thursday after 3pm. With valid ID. Over a nine-week run that is eighteen free evenings, and Mondays and Thursdays are the quietest nights on the grounds.
The $29 Passport to the Arts. For $29, receive one-time entry to Laguna Art-A-Fair, Festival of Arts, and Sawdust Art Festival. PLUS one-time free parking at Act V parking lot on Laguna Canyon Road and free trolley services. Bought individually, the three admissions plus a paid canyon lot exceed $29 easily. If you have not walked all three grounds in one afternoon before, the Passport is the single-day tool.
A note on the Pageant ticket itself: it carries a benefit that is easy to overlook. A Pageant ticket entitles one to free, unlimited admission to the Festival of Arts grounds all summer long. One night at the Irvine Bowl converts into an all-summer pass to the Festival grounds next door.
Where to park, honestly
The canyon road does not get wider in July. The two workable options both start at Act V.
- Act V lot, 1900 Laguna Canyon Road, to the free coastal trolley. This is the move locals default to, and Sol Laguna's Music in the Park write-up confirms the routing: Visitors are highly encouraged to utilize the Free Laguna Beach Coastal Trolley. - Walk or bike from downtown. For anyone living within a mile of Broadway, this is genuinely faster than driving in on a Saturday.
The free programming running underneath the festivals
The paid shows get the attention. The free calendar is where residents spend a surprising amount of the summer.
Music in the Park, Bluebird Park. Laguna Beach summer traditions continue with the return of Music in the Park. These free Sunday evening concerts at Bluebird Park are a community favorite, offering a perfect outdoor setting for live music, picnics, and neighborhood gatherings. Concerts run precisely from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, per the Sol Laguna schedule, and low-back chairs under 30 inches keep the sightlines usable for the family behind you.
Fête de la Musique, Main Beach. The season's kickoff is already behind us, but worth noting for next year's calendar. A worldwide music festival celebrating the start of summer. The festival is held annually in over 1000 cities in 100 countries. Fourth of July inside the Sawdust. A template for the weekend you keep meaning to plan
For residents who have lived here long enough to have stopped going, one Saturday-into-Sunday that uses the resident advantages:
- Sunday, 5:00 PM. Walk or trolley into Bluebird Park with a low chair and a picnic. Music runs two hours flat.
- Monday after 3:00 PM. Sawdust, free with your ID. Dinner is churro bao bun at The Cove by Starfish, or Taco Loco if you brought company.
- Any Wednesday in August. Passport to the Arts at $29 covers Festival of Arts, Sawdust, and Laguna Art-A-Fair in one afternoon. Trolley from Act V.
- Pick one Pageant night. Book the Irvine Bowl for the G.O.A.T. program, then use the ticket as your Festival of Arts pass for the rest of the summer.
The through-line the calendar rewards is treating July, August, and early September as a single connected season rather than three ticketed decisions. The city built the transit and the resident perks around that assumption. The visitors don't know it. You do.
